Client Brief:

 

To design and supply specialist lighting and control systems to the following areas of the new multipurpose leisure centre:

 

  • Swimming Pool
    • Custom-built corrosion-proof lighting.
    • Fully networked control system tied into the centres central lighting management system

Design considerations:

All systems chosen needed to be as maintenance free as possible given the nature of the building and the staff running it. The building hasn’t got an on-site maintenance team and is open to the public for 16 hours per day.  All systems needed to be fully integrated and managed from a single front end PC interface.

Equipment chosen:

Eclipse called on all its portfolio of products for this project. We used lighting from Philips, Lightnet, Colour Kinetics, Luminous Textiles and ProLED  and controls from Pharos, Dynalite and Occuswitch.

Project delivery:

We designed a fully integrated system and provided the electrical contractors H.M Electrics with all the products and information needed to successfully deliver the project. The equipment was delivered on a phased basis allowing our clients to have the required items just in time for installation so as not to have equipment getting damaged on such a busy site with the tight time frame. Our engineering team spent a lot of time assisting the contractors with information and schematics for the various equipment. The management of this project was key to the successful delivery of a fully integrated lighting and control system.

Commissioning:

Given the tight timelines of the project our engineers commissioned the systems on a phased basis completing each system or area as it was ready. Following occupancy of the building by the client we carried out final setup and handover of the systems.

Final product:

Upon completion of this project the clients have got a fully integrated lighting and control system which runs on an automated basis from morning to night. Upon de-activation of the intruder alarm in the morning the centre automatically moves to operational mode, during the day the system regulates lighting levels based on area requirements and natural daylight available. All external lighting is controlled by the astronomical clock in the system which follows sunrise and sunset times for the exact location of the building. When the centre closed to the public at 10pm each night all feature or unnecessary lighting switches off and only leaves on the lighting required for cleaning purposes. The centre then switches off fully following the setting of the intruder alarm each night by the cleaning team.
